AI Search Optimization for Manufacturers
Your customers now ask an AI which supplier fits their requirements. Our goal: the AI recommends you as a supplier, not just cites you somewhere. That’s why we never plan AI search optimization on its own, only together with SEO.
How industrial buyers find suppliers with AI today
Someone looking for a new supplier no longer types in three keywords. They describe their problem to the AI in detail and include complex specifications: what the machine has to do, the conditions it runs under and what matters most to them in choosing a supplier. For example, they might ask for a manufacturer of electric motor winding machines with short cycle times. What comes back isn’t a list of results but an answer with two or three names. Which ones depends on whose information clearly matches the requirement.
This way of searching is becoming the norm. A new generation of buyers always does its own research before approaching a supplier, whether on Google or with AI.
What this means for you: whether you appear in that answer helps decide who gets the inquiry. If you’re missing, you won’t notice. There’s no rejection and no lost bid. The inquiry simply never arrives.
What is AI search optimization?
AI search optimization covers everything a company does to appear in AI answers: in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot as well as in Google’s AI Overviews.
Several terms are going around for the same field right now, such as generative engine optimization (GEO), answer engine optimization (AEO), LLMO or AI SEO, and almost every provider defines them a little differently. We use AI search optimization as the umbrella term. For manufacturing and industrial companies, that means everything that gets AI search and AI chat tools to recommend you as a supplier. For us, it always comes down to concrete inquiries, not visibility for its own sake, citations or impressions.
AI search for manufacturers: recommended, not just cited
Showing up as a source in AI answers is a first step. For manufacturing and industrial companies, though, a citation alone rarely leads to an inquiry. What matters is whether the AI recommends you as a supplier when a buyer describes their specific requirement.
To do that, the AI has to clearly understand your company: what you make, where the limits of your technology are and where you’re stronger than other suppliers. Then it names you for the queries that fit you, not for just any query. That’s the result we work toward.

As an agency for SEO & AI search, we work exclusively with manufacturing and industrial companies.
What visibility in AI answers does for your sales
-
Inquiries via ChatGPT, even for machines costing €100,000 or more
Our clients in manufacturing receive inquiries through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot. Tracking and feedback from their sales teams show this (as of April 2026, from our own analysis).
-
A head start, like a referral
If the AI names you as a suitable supplier, you go into the conversation like someone a colleague has recommended. That's because more and more investment decisions are talked through with an AI first.
-
Still seen when fewer people click
When Google shows an AI summary, users click on a regular result in 8% of visits, compared with 15% without one (Pew Research Center, US, July 2025). If your name appears in the answer as a supplier, the buyer reads it even without clicking.
How you can tell it’s working
You can measure the impact of AI search, in the order that matters for your business: inquiries first, then metrics.
-
Listed source
ChatGPT
Inquiries come first
Prospects list ChatGPT as the source in the contact form, as in the form above, or mention it on a call. We set up the tracking: your sales team asks new contacts how they found you, and we analyze your server logs, which record where each website visit came from.
-
Industrial supplier · 2026
> 3×
Early signal: more often in AI answers
Google Search Console, Google's free tool for website owners, shows how often a website appears in Google's AI answers. For one industrial supplier, that figure more than tripled from June to September 2026. That's not a recommendation yet, but it's the prerequisite for one.
-
Plant builder · Sept. 2026
10 of 11
Named by ChatGPT, often first
In test queries, we ask ChatGPT the questions a buyer would ask, without company names. Another client, a plant builder, was named as a supplier in 10 of 11 of these queries, and as the first recommendation in 6. At the start of the project, it wasn't listed first for supplier questions.

Frequently asked questions about AI search optimization
Does SEO still make sense when everyone searches with AI?
Yes, SEO remains the foundation. In our assessment, Google is still the most important channel, and its AI Overviews are now part of it. When Google shows one of these summaries, people click on a result only about half as often (Pew Research Center, US, July 2025). That’s why we see search heading toward a tipping point, and planning SEO on its own no longer makes sense. Read more on our page SEO for manufacturers.
Does this already affect us as a manufacturer?
In our assessment, yes for many manufacturers, and it’s urgent. Not for all of them, though. The reason is the niche. In many niches, there are only a handful of suppliers worldwide. When a buyer asks an AI for a supplier that meets their requirement, only a few names fit. If you’re not among those few, you’re out of the running, even if you’d technically be the right supplier.
How do we find out whether AI tools mention us today?
You can run a first spot check yourself: ask ChatGPT the question your customer would ask, with their requirement and without your company name. The result is skewed, though, because ChatGPT takes your own preferences and previous conversations into account. So you won’t necessarily see what your customer sees. In the free consultation, we’ll put your spot check into context for your niche.
Can we hire you for AI search on its own?
No, and that saves you a second project. The same content works for you in both places, in Google’s search results and in AI answers, with one budget. You don’t have to coordinate two service providers.
How quickly does it work?
We don’t promise a fixed timeframe, but one example gives a sense of scale. Our work for a plant builder began in March 2026. About six months later, in September 2026, ChatGPT named the company as a supplier in 10 of 11 test queries. How fast it goes for you depends on your starting point and your niche. You’ll get an assessment in the free consultation.
What exactly do you do, and what stays with us?
We write the content that shows an AI you’re the right supplier, with the technical depth buyers put into their questions, and depending on the setup, we publish it directly on your website. Your team reviews it, or, with our basic support package, writes the content while we plan and manage. We use AI tools in content creation; every text is reviewed by engineers for technical accuracy, and approval stays with you.
What does it cost?
We don’t have a separate price for AI search, because it’s part of our SEO support. We’ll work out how much effort your niche needs in the free consultation, and afterwards all prices are clearly stated in the detailed proposal. And the minimum term? Only a short one: usually three months, so we can lay the groundwork for your niche. After that, the terms are flexible.
Let’s talk about your visibility in AI answers.
Tell us what your customers buy and how they ask for it. We'll show you what that means for your inquiries, on Google and in AI answers. We're happy to talk in English or German.
